Information, Knowledge-Based

Safety

The Safety Training category represents the foundation of all training for practitioners in construction, service, maintenance, and commissioning job sites across the country. Safety is the most critical aspect of our work, and it is imperative that every UA member has the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure not only their own safety but also the safety of their colleagues. These programs are designed to provide the highest level of safety training, enabling every worker to return home to their families at the end of each day. 

Safety is a collective responsibility that must be upheld by all on the job site, and maintaining rigorous training standards is essential to preparing our workforce and to mitigating injuries and fatalities. The courses offered in the Safety Training Program are recognized nationally and ensure that safety qualifications are consistent and transferable across Canada. This national standardization supports the mobility of our members, equipping them with the best practices and safety protocols needed to protect themselves and others, no matter where they work.

Red Seal Trades

The Red Seal Trades Training modules are specifically designed to empower UA members as they prepare to achieve their Red Seal certification. These training modules provide essential knowledge and skills that complement traditional trade school education, ensuring members are fully equipped to succeed in their chosen trades. 

These modules offer targeted training in areas that may not be extensively covered in conventional classroom settings, allowing participants to deepen their understanding and enhance their practical abilities. Codes & Standards

The Codes and Standards category equips UA members with essential knowledge of the regulations that govern the installation, service, and maintenance of buildings, systems, and infrastructure. These codes and standards ensure that all work is performed safely, correctly, and in compliance with legal requirements. 

Understanding and applying these regulations is essential for maintaining the safety, functionality, and reliability of the systems we work on. These programs provide guidance on the proper interpretation of codes and standards, helping members ensure that their work not only meets but exceeds industry and legal requirements.

Specialty

The Specialty Certifications category offers a comprehensive range of national certification programs designed to enhance the skills and expertise of UA members across Canada. Aligned with the Red Seal program and supporting interprovincial mobility, these certifications expand upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through apprenticeship training in Red Seal trades, ensuring that UA members achieve a higher level of proficiency within their scope of practice. 

These certifications, including Medical Gas, Controlled Bolting, Cold Cutting, Fusion, and Rigging, are tailored to build on the foundational training of Red Seal trades, elevating your expertise and equipping you with advanced competencies. While these certifications are well within the scope of several UA trades, they take proficiency to the next level, ensuring that members are equipped with the highest level of skill and precision required in their respective fields. By pursuing these certifications, UA members gain a competitive edge in the industry, making them more attractive to clients, owners, and contractors, especially when competing against other trades that might seek to perform similar work.

Job-Site Leadership

The Job Site Leadership category focuses on equipping UA members with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in leadership roles on the job site. Offered through NAUSC, these programs are tailored for individuals looking to step into leadership positions or strengthen their current leadership abilities, giving them the tools to drive success within their teams and projects. 

This suite of training modules covers a broad range of leadership topics, offering practical strategies and insights that can be immediately applied to on-site workflows. An essential component of job site leadership is ensuring that our workforce is equipped with leadership that enables them to be highly productive, highly efficient, and capable of delivering top-quality work while maintaining the highest levels of safety in the industry. Job site leadership carries substantial responsibility, but the extra training offered in this program will provide members with the tools necessary to lead with confidence and effectiveness. Technology

The Technology category of course offerings is dedicated to equipping UA members with the knowledge and skills needed to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in the piping industry. "Green" High-Performance Structures

Our Signatory Contractor Series Program category is tailored to support the success of current signatory contractors and to empower members aspiring to become signatory contractors in the future.
